chatellen barn

the facility

The name “Chatellen” derives from the olde French word “chatellenies.” The word refers to lands that were given as reward to those individuals who had demonstrated uncommon valor or service to the King (Nobility). We took the liberty to shorten the plural to singular and call the farm, Chatellen. Both words come from the root word, chatel, i.e. property.

Our Chatellen sets on 135 acres of irrigated farm and pasture land. We offer a heated main barn building with 12’ x 12’ box stalls and generous outdoor runs. For those horses who prefer less confined quarters there are run-in sheds with large, padded stalls, runs and automatic waterers. The main barn adjoins an 80’ x 200’ state-of-the-art indoor riding arena for year round training. There is also a large, 150’ x 250’ outdoor, multipurpose arena. The horses are turned out daily, either individually, or in pairs, depending on each individual’s needs.

Chatellen is located approximately one hour’s drive north of Denver. We are conveniently located within 15 - 30 min. drive from Greeley, Fort Collins, Loveland and Windsor.

horse care

We pride ourselves on providing outstanding care of your horse through a stringent program of nutrition and health maintenance.

Our feed program consists of multiple feedings a day in which we feed a careful balance of quality hay and concentrates. We feed our own irrigated pasture mix grass hay, grown on the property, that is carefully tested for both protein and mineral content. Our grain is then selected to ensure that all nutritional requirements of the horse are optimally balanced. This custom feed program allows us to tailor each horse's diet based on his/her size, age, physical needs and work load. Our horses thrive on this program. Supplements supplied by the owner will be fed daily by Chatellen staff. In addition, horses are given daily turnout. We find that this combination of turnout and feeding program is optimal, and our horses thrive on this program.

Your equine health provider and farrier are welcome. However, if you choose, you may use any of our team of veterinarians, farriers, chiropractors, or massage therapists. In addition, our proximity to Colorado State University’s Equine Hospital provides 24 hour emergency service just minutes from the farm.
